Floor Care Tips

The number one enemy of hard surface floors is dirt, grit, and sand.  The bottom of your shoes is like sandpaper; the dirt and grit can scratch your floor and wear down the finish.

Hardwood & Laminate Floors

Vacuum or dust mop frequently, this will minimize the scratches and wear-patterns that can develop from everyday use.  Placing a mat at each entry will help cut down on the amount of dirt that ends up on your floor.  To keep your floor looking its best, vacuum or sweep daily with a soft bristle broom or a dust mop.  Mop with a microfiber mop or soft cloth using a ph neutral cleaner.  Wring out as much of the water as possible and go over the floor, rinsing the mop pad or cloth as necessary.  Let floor air dry.

Natural Stone Floors

Vacuum or dust mop frequently, this will minimize the scratches and wear-patterns that can develop from everyday use.  Placing a mat at each entry will cut down on the amount of dirt that ends up on your floor.  Clean with warm water and a clean, non-abrasive cloth, or microfiber mop. In addition, using a ph neutral cleaner specially formulated for natural stone will help remove soils that normal dusting or damp mopping leave behind.  In bathrooms, common soil build up from make-up, hairspray, and other products can be minimized if cleaned on a regular basis with the proper cleaner.  Clean spills immediately.  Avoid using anything acidic on natural stone floors.

Ceramic Tile & Slate Floors

Vacuum or sweep with a soft bristle broom frequently, this will minimize the scratches and wear-patterns that can develop from everyday use.  Placing a mat at each entry will help cut down on the amount of dirt that ends up on your floor.  Clean tile and slate with warm water only. Prevention becomes essential with these floor surfaces. Regularly apply a sealant found in tile stores to slate, tile and especially the grout. Clean spills immediately.

Marble Floors

Vacuum or dust mop frequently, this will minimize the scratches and wear-patterns that can develop from everyday use.  Placing a mat at each entry will help cut down on the amount of dirt that ends up on your floor.  Mop with water only using a mocrofiber mop, barely damp.  Marble floors streak easily so dry them completely with a soft cloth.  Avoid using anything acidic on marble floors.
